Cooktop Symptoms We See Most

Induction, gas and radiant cooktops fail in different ways. These are the complaints we hear most often.

A zone or element won't heat

On induction, a dead zone often means a failed coil or its control; on radiant, a burned-out element. Either way, one cold spot is a targeted, repairable fault.

Induction won't detect the pan

If the cooktop flashes and shuts off with cookware on it, the issue may be the pan's magnetism — or a coil or sensor that has stopped reading it.

Igniter clicks but won't light

A burner that clicks endlessly usually has a fouled igniter, a worn spark module, or an air-fuel balance that needs checking before it becomes a no-light.

Cracked glass surface

A crack in a ceramic-glass top is a safety problem, since liquids can reach the electronics beneath. The glass top is replaceable, not a reason to scrap the appliance.

Unresponsive touch controls

Touch panels that ignore your input, or light up but will not adjust, usually point to a control board or moisture fault.

Why Altitude Matters at 5,920 Feet

Highlands Ranch sits near 5,920 feet, and thinner air changes how a gas flame burns — less oxygen per cubic foot means burners set for sea level can run rich, yellow-tip, or struggle to light cleanly. It is why a gas cooktop that ran perfectly at lower elevation can act up here, and why we tune for that mountain air rather than trusting factory-default settings on Miele gas burners.

Our Cooktop Service, Step by Step

  1. Tell us the symptom

Call (303) 729-0972 or book online and describe what the cooktop is doing — a dead zone, a clicking igniter, a fault code — so we bring the right part.

  2. Diagnose on-site for $89

We inspect the cooktop, read error codes, and test the suspect component — coil, module, sensor or board — to find the cause.

  3. Approve a clear price

You get the exact repair cost up front, from $139 depending on the part. Work begins only once you say go.

  4. Repair and safety-check

We complete the fix and, on gas models, verify clean ignition and a proper flame for our altitude before wrapping up.

Quick Answers

Why does my Miele gas cooktop keep clicking but not light?
Continuous clicking usually means the igniter or spark module is fouled, or the burner ports are dirty. At our elevation, an air-fuel mix set for lower altitude can also make ignition sluggish. Call (303) 729-0972 and we will correct it.
My induction cooktop won't recognize my pan — is it broken?
Not necessarily. Induction only works with magnetic cookware, so first check that a magnet sticks firmly to the pan's base. If pans that always worked suddenly stop being detected, a coil or sensor fault is likely, which we confirm during a diagnostic visit.
How much does Miele cooktop repair cost?
Every visit carries a flat $89 diagnostic fee, and cooktop repairs generally start from $139 depending on the part — igniter, coil, board or glass top. The exact price is set only after the on-site inspection. Book at https://nexfield.pro/crm/book?u=33.

Induction, Gas or Radiant — We Handle All Three

Miele builds cooktops across three technologies, each failing in its own way. Induction is the most electronically complex: power runs through coils controlled by sensitive boards, so most faults are electrical — a dead coil, a misreading sensor, an unresponsive touch panel. Because the components sit just beneath the glass, a cracked top is worth taking seriously before moisture reaches them.

Gas cooktops are more mechanical, and here elevation matters. Thinner air means combustion needs the right air-fuel balance to burn clean, so we check ignition, port cleanliness and flame quality rather than trusting a sea-level setup. Radiant tops sit in between — simpler elements and controls, with the ceramic glass most likely to need replacement after an impact or thermal shock.

Across all three, the aim is the same: find the component that has actually failed and replace it correctly, so a single cold zone or clicking burner is no reason to scrap an appliance with years of life left. Repairs run daily 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM; the phone is answered 24/7.

Cooktop Repair — Starting Estimates

Prices below are starting points. Every visit begins with the flat $89 diagnostic; the exact cost is set only after we inspect the cooktop and you approve it.

Service call (diagnostic)$89
On-site diagnosticInspection and fault-code read, applied to the visit.$89 flat
Igniter or spark module (gas)Fixes persistent clicking and no-light burners.from $139
Induction coil or sensorFor pan-detection failures and dead induction zones.from $189
Ceramic-glass top replacementReplaces a cracked surface; cost depends on the model.from $249

All prices are starting estimates. The exact cost is determined only after an on-site inspection, since every appliance, model and fault is different.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired, or does it need full replacement?

The glass panel is replaced rather than repaired, but that is far cheaper than a new cooktop. We match the correct ceramic-glass top to your Miele model and swap it, checking nothing beneath was damaged.

Does high altitude really affect my gas cooktop?

It does. At roughly 5,920 feet there is less oxygen, which can make a factory-default burner run rich or light poorly. We tune ignition and flame quality for local conditions.

Are unresponsive touch controls fixable?

Usually, yes. Dead or erratic touch controls often come down to a control board or a moisture-related fault, both of which we diagnose and repair on-site. Call (303) 729-0972.

How soon can you come out for a cooktop that won't work?

We schedule repairs daily 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and answer the phone 24/7. For local calls, same-day or next-day service is often available.

Called just before six in the morning fully expecting to leave a voicemail, and a real person picked up. Our garage freezer had quit overnight in the June heat with half a side of beef sitting in it — the condenser fan had seized solid, and he already had the replacement with him, so it was done in one visit. Not a thing thawed, and he was decent enough not to comment on the state of the garage.

I had already started pricing new dishwashers. Every glass was coming out of the Miele with a chalky grey film on it and nothing I ran through the machine made any difference. The real culprit was our hard Douglas County water: scale baked hard onto the heating element, and a spray-arm bearing worn enough to wobble. He descaled it, fitted the new bearing, and corrected a water softener setting that had apparently been wrong since the house was built — clear glassware again, for a small fraction of a replacement.

Sixty-two degrees is not where you want a cabinet of reds sitting, and by then the display had gone dark as well. A power blip earlier that month had cooked the control board; he confirmed that on the first visit, got the correct board, and fitted it a couple of days later. What I appreciated more was that he then set a target temperature our basement can genuinely hold — at 6,200 feet it swings far more than people expect — rather than leaving it on a number that would have the compressor fighting all year.

The griddle on our Wolf had gone from useful to useless, scorching eggs on one pass and barely setting them on the next. He put a meter on it, found the griddle plate thermostat reading well outside its range, and swapped it. Then he checked the oven calibration while he was in there without my asking, which up here matters more than most people realise. The invoice matched the number he gave me before he started, to the dollar.

Every couple of weeks we were chipping a sheet of ice off the freezer floor and mopping up after it. The drain-line heater had failed, so defrost water was refreezing before it ever reached the drain — a genuine part went in and the ice has not come back once since. He also pulled the grille and showed me how much dust a Westridge summer packs into the condenser, which I now vacuum on a schedule.

The humidity control in our undercounter wine drawer stopped regulating and the corks were starting to dry out. I have to be honest about the scheduling: we were given an arrival window twice and both times they turned up well outside it without a phone call, so an afternoon went to waste. The technician himself was excellent — he explained what the humidity module actually does, fitted the replacement, and it has held steady ever since. Good work, but the dispatching needs tightening up.
